Mr. Awan has been practicing litigation since 1995. He founded Mahmood Awan & Associates after receiving his LL.M in Banking and Finance at King's College London. He co-founded Awan Raza as its Senior Partner in 2006 before returning to more selective litigation and arbitration practice in 2015. He has been a member of FraudNet, an International Chamber of Commerce initiative that brings together a team of specialists in fraud, asset tracing and recovery, money laundering and cybercrime. He acts as an arbitrator and has also advised and represented clients on matters before regulatory authorities.
Mr. Awan has acted as primary Counsel for the liquidators of Bank of Credit and Commerce International in multi-jurisdictional legal proceedings to recover misappropriated funds. He has advised Stock Exchanges or investors on several cases of fraud by brokerage firms since 2001. He has advised Pakistan’s largest Exploration & Production company, among other clients including, Pakistan LNG Terminals Limited, Jamshoro Power Company Limited, multiple Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) infrastructure or marketing companies.
Mr. Awan has been advising energy sector clients since 2001 and has represented Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) as lead Counsel in several highly complex litigation matters before all five High Courts of Pakistan. He has structured and reviewed several large transactions for both, OGDCL and Petrosin Corporation and has advised both companies in international arbitrations.
He has advised one of the world’s largest construction companies and the Board of Islamabad Stock Exchange, been a Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan nominee on the Governing Board of the Lahore Stock Exchange and has worked extensively on prevention of fraud in capital market operations since 1995.
